Join me as I host an episode of The Chronic Rift dealing with the subject of zombies. With me for this investigation are three people make zombies a part of their lives -
Dr. Arnold T. Blumberg, Curator of Geppi's Entertainment Museum in Baltimore MD. I'm a writer, book designer and comic book/pop culture historian with a number of books published including guides to comics, Doctor Who collectibles, and entertainment history.
"I co-authored Zombiemania: 80 Movies to Die For, which is an exhaustive guide to zombie films from 1932-2005, with a comprehensive index of every zombie movie ever made during that time and in-depth chapters and analysis of 80 of the best and worst. My co-author and I are working on a follow-up on giallo films and hope to do Zombiemania 2 with an updated index and 40 more in-depth film chapters down the road.
"I've been a long-time zombie movie fan and have written a lot about the genre before and after the publication, appeared on TV and radio discussing the impact of the sub-genre on pop culture in general, and I am *really* looking forward to being part of the Rift. "
Jenifer Rosenburg:"I am a freelance journalist who is addicted to Twitter, and back in June I put the two together and contacted police departments all over the country to see if they would warn the public in event of a zombie attack (http://www.comicmix.com/news/2009/06/05/will-your-local-police-warn-you-when-zombies-attack/). I am also a fan of the horror genre and have seen several zombie movies, played a few console games, etc. I love the game Zombie Pub Crawl, which I play on my iPhone quite often.
"I also hope that we can discuss some awesome stuff that the zombie craze brings to our culture- particularly the zombie walks that promote emergency preparedness and raise funds and hold food drives. There is also the Zombie Game Experiment ( www.zombieexperiment.com/zombie/ ) which is raising money for Team Fox for Parkinson's research, and for which my husband is the lead writer.
"In addition to this, I am a huge anthropology nerd, and I am very interested in the way that zombies exist in the legends of different groups. I am also very interested in the notion that many people have about the zombie apocalypse happening in 2012 when the Mayan calendar ends, especially because there are groups that believes the enlightened will transcend in 2012 and become purely spiritual beings free of physical form. My thought has always been that this leaves behind the physical forms running on nothing but the most primitive brain function - which, naturally, means zombies!
"I look forward to meeting everyone! This is going to be fantastic! "
and finally Jim Salicrup, editor in chief at Papercutz, which publishes, among other titles Classics Illustrated and Tales from the Crypt and is a trustee at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art. Jim spent twenty years at Marvel Comics serving as editor for some of the most important comic stories and issues of the past 30 years, and at Topps Comics, where he edited titles like Dracula, X-Files, Ray Bradbury Comics and more.
It was an hour-long, sometimes VERY animated discussion that will air this coming TUESDAY (October 6th) on their new network: MEVIO!
