Todd Rage broadcasts that New York City and Philadelphia have been abandoned by the federal government. There is a UN task force moving about the countryside. He reiterates to hunker down and lay low.
Ronni & Hicks are looking inside and around the helicopter. They find the crew dead. Dogberry, a local eccentric, comes out of the woods, spooking Ronni. He claims ownership of the chopper.
Derrik and Gray are now both wounded. They bemoan their fate, and then Gray shoots Derrik.
Hicks and Ronni talk with Dogberry, who tells them about seeing the chopper crew get killed. They discuss how to move the chopper out of the road. Joe comes out of the woods. The huge man is recognized by Hicks. Joe is able to swing the chopper tail out of the road so that Hicks' truck can pass.
The UN Task Force leaders Captain McInnes and Captain Grant are working on luring the zombies into buildings and then blowing the buildings up. They discuss their role and presence in the US.
Arriving at the caves, Hicks shows Ronni all the amenities, including electricity and running water. They have the news crew's camera and watch the footage shot on it. Thousands of zombies are in Philadelphia and the countryside. Ronni & Hicks listen to a report by the now-dead anchor Kara Hash, including an interview with Captain McInnes.
Hicks and Ronni are in the caves when Gray calls on the radio. They can tell something is off with him. Gray says he is coming up to the caves.
McInnes and Grant discuss the international scene. Their mission is to find survivors as well as eradicate zombies. They are ordered to assist in the scheduled airlifts at the HG World in Wishwell. As they deploy troops for a mission, Grant is alerted that they are working in an area about to be swept by bombs from airplanes.
